Skin Two's review of the M+V catalogue
(Issue 27)

The names Angela Murray and Stuart Vern have a special place in the never ending story of fetish imagery's crossover into mainstream culture. These two streetwise designers from Manchester were busy forging connections between fetish fashion and mainstream club culture long before the arrival of the 'rubber raver' phenomenon at warehouse parties & long before SM style began appearing on the Paris catwalks.

Having made their mark with stylish rubber clothes, they were the first to convincingly broaden the vocabulary of fetish fashion by using fabrics outside the standard fetish range, combining and replacing rubber with Lycra, cotton/Lycra and net.

This commitment to a wider vision sniffed at by many purists but adored by many more was first revealed in our own Skin Two Collection 3 catalogue of 1993 . Photographed by Peter Ashworth, and featuring styles in Lycra alongside fetish classics such as rubber catsuits and mistress dresses, its striking images caught the eye of the world's press, and gave fetish design a credibility it had never before had on the fashion stage.

Since that time M&V have continued there commitment to crossover, establishing themselves as the fashion mavericks of the fetish world. Very much an integral part of the London Club culture/perv scene, they've never stopped blurring the lines and pushing the boundaries, constantly surprising, re-interpreting an re- inventing.

And now they've teamed up with top British design house Designers Republic - The Sheffield firm that's so hip, even its computer mouse's wear shades - to create the "ultimate fusion of fetish and fashion".

Running to 32 pages, perfect bound and in full colour with the obligatory Designers Republic fifth colour in places, this catalogue (called simply Murray and Vern) showcases sine if gear (and our) favourite photographers - Peter Ashworth, Jeremy, Chaplin, Kevin Davies, James & James and Angelo Valentino - and features models like Polly Fey, Roy Anthony and Kira Hansen, who are inextricably lined with Murray & Verns's ultra-cool brand image and in-your-face catwalk shows. The clothes - Lycra/rubber, see through, Lycra bondage, Tartan corsetry and pure rubber- epitomise 'Club Couture'.
