Pregnant Gas Mask

The Vern report 01 July 2002
01 July 2002

For those of you who have been quite rightly wondering at the lack of updates on this site, let me put you in the picture.
In just over a year Angela and her partner Dan (our webmaster) have become the proud parents of two lovely children, the first Romy a little girl being born last year and then Oscar a little boy born this year.
Meanwhile in the quest for further Knowledge I had decided to enrol in some further education by way of a degree course. All this has left us strapped for time to say the least.
However Murray and Vern goes on, all be it a little more low key. For the present I will fill you in with any relevant updates, so please bear with us until we are able to get back to full throttle.
Over and out the Vern x.

WE LIKE IT !
Stuff that we have enjoyed and want to plug [20 July 2007]...

[club] Lucha Britannia - Had a great time at this place last month, spent the night in a retrofutureverse dodging guys in tights. Click the link and have a look at their myspace.

[video] Throbbing Gristle - Check this out. The words committed and authentic, come to mind.

[book] The possibility of an Island - Another trashy cover another straffing of pomo society. Don't expect to like Huellebecq or his protagonists, that would be missing the point. Its the stuff he rakes up as he ploughs his way through the superficiality of contemporary life that makes him compelling. Authentic fiction, if yer know what i mean

[Exhibition] Araki Self Life Death - “Listen closely, photography is murder.” A quote from the seminal Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki who’s first major UK show Araki: Self.Life.Death open’s at the Barbican Art Gallery 6th October 2005 (until 22 Jan/06).
Araki is perhaps most famous or infamous for his erotic work and no doubt the tabloids will have there spectacle on this one, but there’s much more to him than rope tricks. In a career that spans well over 40 years this guy bleeds photography. Not one to miss, checkout the link and get yer ass down there.
Ok here’s the competition we promised you last month. For your chance to win a copy of Phaidon's brand new monograph on Araki, which contains over 1,000 images worth £39.95! email your name and postal address to artinfo@barbican.org.uk. Don't forget to put 'Araki/Murray&Vern' in the subject line. Plus 5 lucky runners up will each receive a pair of tickets to the exhibition. Good luck!

[book] Game of War - The life and death of Guy Debord by Guy Hussy. I could not put this one down. What can I say about Situationist theory, in my ever so humble the most important critique of modern society and its culture since old hairy face him self. "So you think you want to fuck with us, not for long". Compelling.

[club] Kosmische - The origional krautrock club. The source of all electroclash. You might want to leave your rubber at home for this one. The look is intelligensia, librarian glasses, beards and pocket poetry to chill out with. A new fetish ? We love it !

[book] Atomised - Michel Houellebecq is the novelist of the fucked generation.

[dinosaur] Monsanto Technique - A blast from the past but worth a look.

[pants] Dollywood - Airing their dirty laundry in public.

[music] Peaches - Pornographic electroclash.

[book] The Ethical Slut - by Dossie Easton and Catherine Liszt. A guide to infinite sexual possibilities - a book on relationships.

[music] Chicks on Speed - A good T-shirt shop who have have a good line in music merchandise.

[film] Audition - directed by Takashi Miike. Diby, diby, diby.

[film] 24 Hour Party People - A film about the rise and demise of Factory Records and The Hacienda. Reminds us of home, our kid.
